The Big Six is a NLCS tradition consisting of outstanding individuals chosen as role models and school ambassadors. They will play a pivotal role in shaping our school community for the upcoming academic year. Each member brings their distinct talents, passions, and unwavering dedication to making a positive impact on our NLCS (Singapore) community.
We are delighted to introduce our new Big Six and excited about their vision and ideas for the year ahead.

Rohan Janaki Deepakumar – Academic Ambassador
The academic culture at NLCS (Singapore) holds a special place in my heart. The co-curricular opportunities offered to students significantly enhance their experiences here, and thus, will be a primary focus for me in the upcoming year. My aim is to boost participation across various societies, which are student-led groups while fostering a healthy and passionate culture. Additionally, I intend to continue providing students with opportunities to take ownership of their learning through student-led seminars, lectures, and other educational avenues. Personally, I have found these opportunities pivotal in my growth as a learner and am eager to share this experience with others while enhancing it along the way. By the end of my tenure, I aspire to leave a lasting legacy through the creation of a well-established structure for student academic enrichment that is both widespread and effective.

Ruben Bruhl-Gati – Student Welfare Ambassador
Since its inauguration at the Suntec City convention centre, I have witnessed NLCS (Singapore) evolve into a community I proudly consider myself a part of—an environment where academic growth is nurtured and supported, where extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities are seamlessly integrated with standard lessons, and where differences are not rejected but welcomed. In my view, student welfare is paramount to the success of the school; I firmly believe that the development and growth of NLCS (Singapore) hinge on the well-being and mindset, whether academic or social, of its students. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to support and enhance existing systems, ensuring that NLCS student life is tailored to meet the specific needs of its students. I am grateful for the privilege of being one of the six new student leaders and look forward to contributing to the continued success and positive development of NLCS (Singapore).

Eiji Umatani – Internationalism, Diversity & Inclusion Ambassador
In my role, I consider Internationalism, Diversity, and Inclusion as fundamental principles that will guide NLCS (Singapore) to become a better member of the international community with high standards for global awareness and equality. Internationalism represents our commitment to connecting with the outside world beyond school by fostering an inquisitive mind for world affairs and open-mindedness towards different views. Diversity involves embracing the rich culture that we have and the opportunity to celebrate our differences and learn from each other. Inclusivity entails nurturing an environment where students are accepted and respected for who they are. In the year ahead, my objective as an ambassador is to promote these values by encouraging discussions on diversity and inclusion, orchestrating and promoting events to raise awareness and celebrate our differences, and fostering an inclusive environment by organizing exciting initiatives that promote unity in our school community.

Ananya Srikant – Sports Ambassador
Sports have always been a significant part of my life, and it is something I take pride in. As a girl, it was consistently challenging for me to gain recognition and be acknowledged as an equal, given that sports have traditionally been labeled as a stereotypically “boys’ activity.” In my role as Sports Ambassador, my goal is not only to eliminate this stereotype but also to expose the entire student body, especially the girls, to new sports and activities that may pique their interest. I aim to demonstrate that sports are an essential aspect of everyone’s life, regardless of age or gender, as they have the power to foster community and bring people together. I strongly believe that a person’s engagement and passion for a sport begin at school, and it is our responsibility to ensure that students have the opportunity to discover their interests.

Karina Gunawan – Arts Ambassador
I’m thrilled to serve as the Arts Ambassador for NLCS (Singapore) this academic year! I’ve taken on this role because I’ve personally gained extensive experience through the numerous opportunities offered by the arts at NLCS and hope to ensure that other students have similar experiences. I firmly believe that the arts are as crucial as any other aspect of the school, and I aspire to support and elevate the school’s arts departments through my position. In the coming year, my primary goal is to prioritize student feedback and provide a variety of opportunities for students to refine their skills and showcase their talents in their areas of passion. I aim to encourage more students to engage in the arts this year, particularly looking forward to witnessing their involvement in some of the most significant events of the year, arguably the most important events, such as the Talent Show, the school play “Around the World in 80 Days,” and the annual Arts Festival.

Olivia Shing – Service Ambassador
I firmly believe that the role of Service is crucial in fostering selflessness and developing servant leaders. The Service Ambassadorial role holds significant influence in inspiring greater service involvement throughout the school, providing opportunities for meaningful service and engagement with the broader local community, both within and outside the school. As the Service Ambassador, it brings me joy to witness students taking the initiative in service activities, and I consider it a privilege to support these initiatives in any way possible to ensure they have a meaningful and real impact. With passion and enthusiasm for the upcoming year, I aim to instigate a shift in the mentality of NLCS students, fostering an awareness of the needs of others and encouraging each student to embrace a role as a servant leader while cultivating their social responsibility. By promoting and raising awareness of the diverse service opportunities available at NLCS, my goal is for every student to actively lead and participate in meaningful service throughout the upcoming year and beyond.
