This year’s Maths Week at NLCS (Singapore) was a vibrant celebration of curiosity, collaboration, and discovery, exploring how counting shapes our thinking, our stories, and our community. With “Counting” as the theme, our students immersed themselves in activities that connected Mathematics to history, culture, and everyday life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Senior School, the week opened with an assembly on number systems, from Roman numerals to Chinese characters and binary, reminding students that Mathematics is a language we continue to explore. Highlights included tutor time quizzes, the Mathletics House Competition relay, a screening of \u201cThe Man Who Knew Infinity\u201d, and ten challenging Maths problems that inspired elegant solutions. The week concluded with a Maths Escape Room created by our student-led Maths Society and Dr Collins\u2019 McCabe Lecture, Two Infinities and Between, which sparked deep curiosity and lively discussion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the First School, our youngest Mathematicians began with \u201cHow Many Legs?\u201d by Kes Grey and explored hands-on activities such as an Indoor Playground Scavenger Hunt and counting in different languages. Our PreKG and KG1 students composed and performed their own counting songs, sharing creativity and confidence during assembly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across the Lower School, our students tackled a Counting Problem of the Day, enjoyed The Story of 1,\u00a0participated\u00a0in musical counting workshops, and designed their own counting-themed board games. The week ended with the Times Tables Rock Stars Battle, where Nathan Xie (G3) was crowned champion, cheered on enthusiastically by his peers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What stood out most was the sense of community and shared curiosity, hallmarks of the holistic approach to learning at our international school in Singapore.
