Enrichment complements academics by nurturing intellectual curiosity, resilience, teamwork, and global awareness, shaping well-rounded individuals ready to thrive in university and life. Our CCA programme allows students to find their passions, and builds floors not ceilings, to develop academically, socially and personally. Enrichment and co-curricular opportunities at NLCS (Singapore) play a vital role in developing students’ character, confidence and independence beyond the academic curriculum. Through participation in sports, the arts, leadership programmes and service activities, students cultivate key personal qualities such as resilience, teamwork and global awareness. These experiences enable Senior School students to discover their passions, broaden their perspectives and develop as well-rounded individuals prepared for future challenges.
The programme combines academic challenge, creativity, and global perspective, empowering students to pursue passions across disciplines while developing confidence and character within a supportive community. What is truly unique is the breadth and depth of the programme on offer, and the opportunity all students have to explore and experience different activities and programmes from a vast range on offer. We have a focus on the CCA programme supporting academic excellence, and therefore clubs are designed to support the curriculum, whilst broadening students horizons and giving them the opportunity to try a range of things and find their passion. Our Week Without Walls programme is also unique in giving students the opportunity to choose from a range.
Senior School students engage in a diverse enrichment and cocurricular programme, including academic societies, performing arts, sports, Model United Nations, community service, and leadership initiatives, as well as a range of other CCAs which are designed to help students find their passions and extend learning beyond the classroom.We are proud of the broad range of CoCurricular Activities on offer each day, giving students the opportunity to be challenged and inspired by our dedicated and knowledgeable staff. Alongside activities we offer a broad and exciting range of local and international trips and visits, giving students the opportunity to broaden their horizons and become truly global citizens.
Through independent research, public speaking, teamwork, and community engagement, enrichment builds the critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership skills sought by leading global universities. We also have a range of CCA activities which directly support students academic and wider learning university applications, such as SAT exam prep, Physics University Entrance Exam Prep and DELE Exam prep. CoCurricular and Enrichment activities give students an opportunity to support their application but being involved in school wide initiatives such as school publications, competitions and fixtures, and find their talents and passions ready for university life.
With a wide choice of academic, creative, sporting, and service options, the programme ensures every student finds activities suited to their strengths and aspirations. We are proud of the broad range of offers, and find that all students can find something which excites and inspires them. We listen to student voices through our Student Leadership Team and feedback and always aim to meet students' needs.
Academic Enrichment is embedded in the weekly timetable for Grades 9 and above. CCAs run daily after school from 3.45 - 4.45 and students are able to choose one for each day of their wish. We encourage students to participate in a minimum of one CCA session per week.
Creative expression is encouraged through drama productions, both in the Senior School production, and through student-led productions for Arts Festival, art exhibitions, choirs, orchestras, and design projects, providing students with platforms to showcase talent and creativity. Students have the chance to take part in a range of cocurricular and enrichment activities which range from elite to recreational.
Parents receive updates through newsletters, event invitations, and the Parent Portal, keeping them connected to their child’s enrichment journey and achievements. Parents have full access to SOCS, our online platform where students register for the CCA activities they want to take part in. Parents will have a full view of their child's timetable, and can contact the CCA Office easily via email with queries. Individual members of staff who run certain activities, especially in relation to Sports and Performing Arts will also have regular contact from coaches and teachers.
Leadership is nurtured through service projects, house competitions, and student-led clubs that develop responsibility, communication, and initiative, skills essential for life beyond school. We also have a range of CCAs which allow students to develop their leadership skills such as the World Scholars Cup, the Duke of Edinburgh International Award, and Model United Nations. Our Week Without Walls residential trips programme also provides students with an opportunity to collaborate and lead in settings beyond their comfort zone, whilst having fun.
Through design challenges, research projects, and collaborative performances, students apply learning in new contexts—developing creative confidence and innovative thinking. There are a range of activities on offer which specialize in creativity, critical thinking and innovation, such as our STEM racing team, lego robotics, the World Scholars Cup and our design programmes. We aim to ensure that students are able to develop skills, interest and real world benefits from the enrichment programmes they choose to engage and participate in.
Students join subject-specific societies, attend specialist lectures, and pursue research projects that encourage debate, collaboration, and independent inquiry, core aspects of NLCS (Singapore)’s academic enrichment.

Academic Society membership
Students are encouraged to join academic societies that relate to their subject passions or interests. These societies meet weekly and offer opportunities for students to explore ideas beyond the classroom, collaborate with peers, and develop their intellectual curiosity. Several Societies produce their own termly publications, giving students the chance to write, edit, design and showcase their intellectual curiosity to the wider school community.
Academic Lectures
McCabe lectures take place every other week, delivered by teachers on subjects or topics they are deeply passionate about, sparking students’ intellectual curiosity, and introducing them to the kind of scholarly thinking and academic discourse they will encounter at university.
Academic lectures are delivered by guest speakers, who are experts in their field, enabling students to gain new perspectives and exposure to areas of knowledge they may not yet have encountered, further sparking their intellectual curiosity.
Academic Subject Weeks
Across the year, departments run dedicated subject weeks, from Book Week to Maths Week, designed to stretch and challenge students academically. These weeks include activities, events and competitions, enthusing students in a love of subject beyond the curriculum.
Academic Enrichment Seminar Programme
Students may partake in or lead their own seminar series. This involves conducting an independent inquiry into a chosen topic, and facilitating discussion or debate with their peers in an academic setting, developing independent and critical thinking.
Students also have the opportunity to take part in academic-enrichment trips locally, to deepen their subject knowledge further, and apply their classroom knowledge in real-world contexts.
Academic Competitions
Students are provided with opportunities to partake in academic competitions, from debating, olympiads, to STEM challenges and more; this serves as an opportunity to represent the school in areas they excel in.

At NLCS (Singapore) the Sports Programme aims to discover and develop the potential in each and every student commensurate of age and ability in a wide range of sporting activities.
We take part in both ACSIS (Singapore) and FOBISIA (ASIA) athletic conferences in a wide range of sports in all age groups. (Football, Netball, Tennis, Volleyball, Swimming, Cross country, Gymnastics, Badminton, Cricket, Basketball, Golf, Touch Rugby, Track and Field, T-Ball, Climbing)
Sport is an integral part of school life at NLCS (Singapore). Our goal is to involve, excite and motivate our students in physical activity. We offer a vibrant, exciting programme of competitive and non-competitive sporting activities to encourage maximum participation, individual aspiration, team achievement and personal excellence.
Sport plays a central role in the school's educational goal to educate individuals to embrace challenges and take responsibility for shaping a better world. Students take part in overseas trips, academic conferences, exchange programmes, and service expeditions, broadening their horizons and fostering international-mindedness. We also have an annual Week Without Walls programme, where all students are encouraged to take part in an overseas trip and there is a focus on self development. We also have a range of other overseas opportunities related to sports, music, academia and leadership. Cultural and outdoor education international trips also take place during school vacations, for example , these include our annual Ski Trip to Switzerland.
