At NLCS (Singapore), sport is more than competition. It is a platform for building character, resilience, teamwork, and leadership. Our new Athlete of the Term Award recognises students who exemplify these values, celebrating dedication, integrity, and a genuine passion for their sport. This term, we are proud to honour our very first recipient, Eivan Khoo.
Eivan’s impact stretches across multiple arenas. He has excelled in volleyball, achieved an impressive 1.6m high jump at Sports Day, and consistently demonstrated commitment in PEH lessons. His coaches describe him as determined, reliable, and a role model for younger Bulldog athletes.
Reflecting on the award, Eivan said, “Being named Athlete of the Term reminded me that the extra hours of training, focus, and consistency are paying off. It motivates me to keep pushing myself.” One standout moment for him this term was his final volleyball game. Playing alongside older students, he gave everything for the team, ending the season on a high note.

Eivan credits his consistency, discipline, and coachability for his success. He prioritises recovery, including foam rolling after training, to stay injury-free, and approaches every session with a positive mindset. Balancing academics with high-level sport is challenging, but he manages homework during lunch and weekends, refining his time management along the way, skills that are essential for student-athletes at our international school in Singapore.
He also acknowledges the support of friends, who encourage him, keep him organised, and cheer him on during games. Overcoming injuries such as shin splints and jumper’s knee, Eivan emphasised the importance of listening to his body and maintaining safe training habits.
To younger athletes, Eivan advises: “Stay patient, enjoy the process, and choose a sport you love. Consistency and perseverance are everything.” With his short-term goal of improving volleyball and trampolining skills and long-term aim to compete at higher levels, Eivan embodies the Bulldog Spirit and sets a shining example for the NLCS (Singapore) sports community.
