At NLCS (Singapore), international and residential trips are an integral part of the educational journey, offering students the opportunity to expand their learning beyond the classroom. These thoughtfully designed experiences deepen academic understanding, nurture personal growth, strengthen social bonds, and inspire global awareness. By participating in a variety of activities and challenges, students gain skills and perspectives that prepare them to excel academically and contribute meaningfully to society.

Local trips at NLCS (Singapore) extend learning beyond the classroom, offering students the chance to explore museums, art galleries, and cultural landmarks while engaging with Singapore’s rich heritage and vibrant community. These experiences align with the school’s ethos by enhancing academic learning beyond the curriculum, nurturing creativity, and fostering resilience. Through meaningful community service projects and opportunities to connect with peers and the wider Singaporean community, students develop empathy, social responsibility, and a deeper appreciation of Singapore.

Residential trips in the Junior School at NLCS (Singapore) provide younger students with the same enriching learning experiences as those offered in the Senior School, preparing them for future adventures. These trips encourage curiosity, teamwork, and independence by taking learning beyond the classroom. Through engaging activities, cultural exploration, and time spent with peers and teachers in a new environment, students build confidence, form stronger relationships, and develop skills that will serve them throughout their educational journey.

その 壁のない週 programme, an integral part of our educational approach, encourages students to step beyond the conventional classroom setting. This initiative reflects and embodies the core principles of the NLCS ethos and values, and of the IB Learner Profile.

The programme is open to students from Grade 6 to Grade 11. Each Week Without Walls excursion is crafted with a distinct focus on curriculum extension, service learning, environmental awareness, or personal/physical development and challenge, offering students authentic and enduring learning experiences.

Students in Grades 6 and 7 are encouraged to attend whole Grade Residential Trips designed to foster personal development, community, and collaboration through a programme developed to help students discover their talents and interests, develop independence and resilience, and work together.

Students from Grade 8 and above will have the opportunity to choose from several trips, including:

  • Student exchange programme with one of our sister schools.
  • A Grade Residential trip focused on Outdoor Education and Service.
  • A Grade Residential trip centred on Culture and Service.
  • A Cross-Grade Enrichment trip led by subject departments.

During the Easter Break, students from Grades 6 to 11 can choose to embark on a variety of international trips designed to enrich their school experience. These trips blend education, adventure, and community building, offering something for every student.

Some destinations are crafted to inspire, allowing students to explore vibrant cultures, engage with cutting-edge industries, immerse themselves in diverse environments, and visit world-class universities. These trips encourage curiosity, expand perspectives, and provide unique opportunities to connect learning with real-world experiences.

We also offer other trips focussed on fun, fostering friendships, and building a sense of community through shared adventures. These experiences provide students with opportunities to bond with peers, strengthen relationships, and create lasting memories in a supportive and enjoyable setting.

Fieldwork is an essential component of the IB Diploma Programme Internal Assessment for both Biology and Geography. It provides students with valuable hands-on opportunities to engage with natural ecosystems, collect data, and apply theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts. These experiences not only enhance their understanding of key concepts but also equip them with the tools needed to succeed in their assessments.

In Geography, students analyse the impact of human activity on natural environments, such as coral reefs or land use patterns, deepening their understanding of environmental changes and sustainability.

Biology students study ecosystems like rainforests, tidal zones, or mangroves, examining ecological and biological factors to gain practical insights into biodiversity and environmental health.

Sports trips across the Asia are a cornerstone of the sports programme at NLCS (Singapore), giving students the opportunity to represent the school on an international stage. Through FOBISIA, students compete in a variety of sports with peers from across the region, fostering teamwork, resilience, and a strong sense of sportsmanship. These trips also allow students to build meaningful connections with peers from other international schools. Reflecting the school’s values of excellence and collaboration, these experiences provide a platform for students to challenge themselves beyond academics, celebrate their achievements, and grow as individuals.

Performing arts trips across Asia are a highlight of the arts programme at NLCS (Singapore), providing students with the opportunity to showcase their talents on an international stage. Through events and collaborations with other schools, students engage in a variety of performances, from music and drama to dance, fostering creativity, confidence, and a deep appreciation for the arts.

Trips take place at several points throughout the year as part of the school’s holistic programme, offering students frequent opportunities for exploration, collaboration and leadership development.  The majority of residential trips take place during school holidays and during Week Without Walls. There are day trips in and around Singapore during term time, and on occasion sports or performing arts trips.

Senior School students enjoy a wide range of local and international experiences including cultural visits, residential expeditions, academic field trips and the annual “Week Without Walls” experiential learning programme, where students from grades 6 - 11 take part in either whole grade residentials, or from grade 8 and above either a grade residential or other enrichment trips.

Trips complement academic learning by promoting cultural awareness, global perspectives, and hands-on experiences that help students build resilience, teamwork and real-world understanding. By offering a variety of choices and expanding options as students progress through their time at NLCS (Singapore), everyone is enabled to explore new interests and deepen existing ones. This approach aligns well with the school's values of providing "floors not ceilings," and our commitment to supporting students in reaching their full potential and pursuing their passions. These trips not only offer opportunities for cultural enrichment and exploration but also provide valuable learning experiences outside of the traditional academic setting.

Yes. Every trip is designed to build empathy, independence, social responsibility and global awareness, helping students become confident and compassionate world citizens.

Every trip is carefully planned with thorough risk assessments, experienced staff supervision and clear safety protocols that align with the school’s safeguarding policies. Full checks are carried out with any external vendor or supplier, and our staff are trained in risk management.

“Week Without Walls” is open to students from Grade 6 to Grade 11. It provides opportunities for outdoor learning, service projects and personal growth through immersive experiences outside the classroom. The Week Without Walls programme, an integral part of our educational approach, encourages students to step beyond the conventional classroom setting. This initiative reflects and embodies the core principles of the NLCS (Singapore) ethos and values, and of the IB Learner Profile. Each Week Without Walls excursion is crafted with a distinct focus on curriculum extension, service learning, environmental awareness, or personal/physical development & challenge, offering students authentic and enduring learning experiences.

The fundamental objective of the Week Without Walls programme is to enhance the cognitive and affective dimensions of our NLCS (Singapore) curriculum by immersing students in experiential opportunities outside the conventional educational environment. We aspire to kindle and nurture the innate curiosity and adventurous spirit within each student, fostering their self-confidence and a sense of personal accomplishment. This is achieved by purposefully guiding students outside their comfort zones in a structured, positive, and supportive manner, ultimately promoting sustained personal and academic growth.

Parental consent is required for all trips. Parents receive detailed information and permission forms in advance to ensure transparency and understanding before participation.

At the start of the academic year, the school aims to hold an international and residential trips evening, so parents are able to see all the tris on offer over the course of the year. This is also complemented with a brochure, specifying details. Further details are then shared through

The school’s communication portal, newsletters and consent forms which include itineraries, costs, safety guidelines and preparation details.
