The Junior School offers a wide range of enrichment opportunities across academics, sports, music, art, drama, and service. Each term, students can explore new interests through structured clubs and creative sessions designed to complement classroom learning.
The enrichment programme encourages students to discover and develop their unique talents through hands-on experiences, teamwork, and performance opportunities. It fosters curiosity, builds resilience, and helps each child grow in confidence within and beyond the classroom. Students have an opportunity to discover their passions and try a range of activities in a supportive environment led by staff who are passionate about what they are leading and encourage students to have a go.
Enrichment is woven into the school’s holistic approach, supporting academic growth, personal wellbeing and social development. Teachers collaborate to ensure activities reinforce key learning outcomes and character education. Homeroom teachers are aware of what enrichment activities each student is participating in, and can offer advice and support to students and parents.
Activities are open to all students, with differentiated levels and supportive guidance from teachers and coaches. The focus is on participation, growth, and enjoyment, allowing every student to explore confidently. The allocation of enrichment opportunities is based on a system where students and their families select their top four choices for each day. We aim to ensure that all students are assigned an enrichment opportunity they have chosen. An initial allocation is not a commitment for the whole season; within reason, there is always scope to move a student into an opportunity that is better suited to them.
Parents are encouraged to discuss their child’s interests, celebrate progress, and attend school events and performances. Their involvement helps students build motivation, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for learning beyond the classroom. Parents are also encouraged to support their children in choosing their enrichment activities each season through our online platform SOCS. We welcome parent feedback and enjoy hearing how much their children value these enrichment opportunities.
The enrichment programme offers variety and flexibility, ensuring every student finds opportunities suited to their passions, from science explorations and coding to drama, choir, and competitive sport. Differentiated activities allow each student to thrive at their own pace.
Activities are carefully selected each season to provide a balanced mix of academic, creative, and athletic options. Lower School students choose from a seasonal list of clubs aligned with their interests, ensuring fresh experiences throughout the school year. First School students have a small number of paid CCA options to choose from. Enrichment sessions from KG2 onwards operate on a rotational basis with classmates, selected by teachers.
Yes. Students in Kindergarten 2 to Grade 5 participate in scheduled enrichment sessions during the school day, with optional after-school clubs offered in sports, performing arts, and creative pursuits across the year.
Through collaborative projects, performances and team challenges, students develop initiative, communication and leadership skills. These experiences lay strong foundations for success in the Senior School and beyond. There are also activities on offer which continue into the SS with a leadership focus, such as Model United Nations and the Big Little 6. Bespoke Enrichment, such as public speaking and reasoning, offer students the opportunity to develop skills in preparation for the Senior School.
Yes. While formal co-curricular clubs begin in Kindergarten 2, younger students in Pre-KG and KG 1 engage in age-appropriate enrichment through play-based learning, music, and creative exploration during the school day.
Students can take part in science clubs, book circles, maths challenges, coding workshops and public-speaking sessions that extend learning beyond the classroom and encourage independent inquiry. There are also some subject specific extension clubs as well as subject specific enrichment activities. For those First Schools with the appetite for further enrichment there are activities such a tennis and gymnastics (parent funded).
Yes, students can participate in language clubs that introduce new cultures and vocabulary through games, songs and interactive storytelling, broadening global understanding from an early age. We currently offer French, Spanish, German and English as foreign languages during our enrichment sessions. We also offer a Mother Tongue programme in partnership with external language schools. These classes are paid for separately. At the moment, we provide provision in Korean, Japanese, Russian, French, and Spanish, but we can cater to individual needs.
Physical education and swimming are integral to the timetable. Students participate in PE lessons weekly and attend swimming sessions in two six-week blocks each academic year, where our qualified instructors focus on skill development and water safety. For those students who show promise, there are pathways into swim squads and sports teams.
