At NLCS (Singapore), we believe that the foundations laid in a child’s earliest years shape everything that follows, and we are proud that this belief is being recognised beyond our school gates. In this special Insider Series feature with Little Steps Asia, our Junior School Principal, Mrs Louise McCabe-Arnold, and Assistant Principal (First School Curriculum), Mrs Karly Potter, share the thinking and care that goes into every stage of our Junior Years, from Pre-KG at age 3 through to Grade 5.
The conversation explores what it truly means to nurture a lifelong learner: the role of emotional security and purposeful play in the early years, the importance of keeping curiosity alive as children grow, and how our “floors not ceilings” philosophy ensures every child is given the space to discover their strengths without comparison. Wellbeing sits at the heart of all of this, not as something separate from learning, but as the very condition that makes deep, joyful learning possible.
We are grateful to Little Steps Asia for shining a light on the work our Junior School team does every day to ensure our youngest learners feel safe, valued, and genuinely excited to come to school. This feature is the first in a four-part series, and we look forward to sharing more of our school community in the weeks ahead.
