Science Week 2024 was an exhilarating exploration into the world of forensic science. Our beloved mascot, Winston, had been kidnapped and a ransom note was found. The entire Junior School at NLCS (Singapore) delved into the mysteries of crime scene investigation to find the culprit.
Activities were diverse and engaging, ranging from decoding unique characteristics of footprints to unraveling the secrets hidden within chromatography of a simulated ransom note. Students eagerly participated in hair analysis experiments, learning how to identify subtle clues from individual strands. The highlight was the DNA extraction sessions, where budding scientists extracted genetic material from a kiwi, unlocking the potential for real-world forensic applications.
Through this thematic approach, Science Week not only fostered scientific curiosity but also instilled a deeper understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of forensic science. The Junior School were able to find the culprit and in doing so, bring Winston back home safe and well!
