丰富的课外活动机会

At NLCS (Singapore), we believe learning goes far beyond the classroom walls. Our enrichment programme provides students with meaningful opportunities to discover their passions, develop their talents, and grow into confident, thoughtful leaders.

While we celebrate achievements across academics, sports, the arts, and service, we place special emphasis on nurturing academic curiosity and scholarship, inspiring students to pursue excellence in all they do. Throughout the Senior School, students are encouraged to join a variety of academic societies and activities that deepen their learning and foster collaboration.

Our Academic Enrichment programme at NLCS (Singapore) aims to nurture intellectual curiosity, deepen subject knowledge, and further develop confident independent thinkers. Students can choose from a diverse range of opportunities, including academic competitions, societies, clubs, lectures, student publications, and debates. Alongside these, they also engage in a structured programme of taught academic enrichment, which forms an extended and purposeful part of our wider education programme. Together, these opportunities encourage students to explore ideas beyond the syllabus, think critically, and develop confidence as independent learners.

Students can look forward to engaging and inspiring experiences such as:

  • Grade 9 to 12 Seminar Programme: For students in Grades 9–12, some of the most valuable enrichment opportunities take place within the school day rather than after it. Two dedicated teaching periods focus on academic enrichment and support, woven thoughtfully into the curriculum, with sessions that include lectures, seminars, accredited online courses, and public speaking opportunities. These experiences mirror the mature academic environment of a university, enabling students to go beyond the curriculum by demonstrating subject passion, intellectual curiosity, and independent thinking.
  • McCabe Lectures: The late Bernice McCabe OBE was Headmistress of NLCS (UK) between 1997 and 2017. Having overseen the international expansion of the NLCS brand and resultant creation of our family of schools, she also served as Director of International Schools and Education Strategy until, tragically, she lost her battle with brain cancer in February 2019. Mrs McCabe believed that academic rigour, depth of subject knowledge, and the ability to communicate a love of subject to students are the fundamental requirements for effective teaching; it is for this reason that our lecture programme is named for her. All McCabe lectures, whether delivered by teaching staff, visiting academics, NLCS alumni, or other guests, have one common goal: providing students with the opportunity to hear from true experts in their field and exposing them to high-level academic discourse that goes well beyond the confines of the ‘normal’ curriculum. Many are pitched closer to undergraduate level than school level, and allow students to glimpse just how far an NLCS education can take them.
  • Academic Societies: Exploring topics beyond the syllabus alongside peers who share their interests, cultivating a deeper love of learning. A number of societies also publish periodicals. These take many forms, from medical research journals to magazines, and some include collaborations across the NLCS family of schools.
  • Olympiad Preparation: Challenging students to apply knowledge creatively and take pride in their achievements.
  • Guest Lectures: Learning from experts and exploring fresh perspectives that ignite curiosity and independent thought.
  • Academic Weeks: Led by departments such as Mathematics, History or even Sports Science, students get to explore a variety of activities.
  • Debates: Building confidence, critical thinking, and thoughtful engagement with complex ideas.

The NLCS (Singapore) Sports Programme aims to discover and develop each student’s potential through a wide range of sporting activities suited to their age and ability. Sport is a vital part of school life, promoting participation, aspiration, and excellence through both competitive and non-competitive opportunities. It supports our wider educational mission by building confidence, resilience, teamwork, and leadership. With a “Sport for All” philosophy, we nurture both interest and talent, helping students grow from participation to expertise.

Sports Programme Objectives at the Respective Levels

Each competitive sports programme is structured across five levels:

  • Junior U8-U11 & Senior School U12 – At the primary level, we embrace a “Sport for All” approach, ensuring every child enjoys, grows, and develops their skills through a balance of fun and friendly competition.
  • U14 – Skill Development: Focused on building skills, game understanding, and knowledge of rules, this stage prioritises maximum participation to support growth and well-being while laying strong foundations for higher levels.
  • U16 – Training to Be Competitive: Our U16 students refine core skills and apply them in competitive settings, developing confidence, tactics, and a genuine love for their sport.
  • U19 – Competitive: At this stage, emphasising competitiveness, game time is earned through performance, while still fostering teamwork, participation, and advanced tactical understanding.

With a panel of world-class musicians as adjudicators, participants will not only have the opportunity to perform and share their artistry, but also to receive high-level mentorship, take part in workshops, and be inspired by peers who share their passion. This new initiative reflects our commitment to nurturing musical excellence, supporting growth, and celebrating meaningful contributions to the musical world.

With such breadth and diversity, there is truly something for everyone. At NLCS (Singapore), every student is welcomed, encouraged, and inspired to explore their voice, develop their craft, and experience the shared joy of making music together.
