Music at NLCS (Singapore) is a dynamic and inspiring part of school life, giving our students the chance to explore creativity, develop skills, and collaborate with peers. Through performance, composition, and teamwork, students discover the transformative power of music, learning not only to express ideas and emotions, but also to embrace dedication, resilience, and confidence.
In the Senior School, this term has been exceptional. Students immersed themselves in a wide range of musical experiences, from the McLauchlan Lunchtime Recital and the Solo Recital Evening, to performances for the King’s Birthday, masterclasses with visiting artists, and the Big Band Lunchtime Recital. New ensembles and CCAs offered fresh opportunities to explore diverse musical styles, from chamber groups to Big Band and the Advanced String Ensemble.
The repertoire spanned classical masterpieces, contemporary works, and festive favourites, including the Pure Piano Concert and the Christmas Concert and Carols. Behind every performance were hours of focused practice, collaboration, and creative growth, reflecting our commitment to the motto: We Aspire to Inspire.
In the Junior School, music sits at the heart of our community. Walk through the corridors and there’ll be singing, strings tuning, or a class rehearsing together. From singing, rhythm games, and drumming in the younger grades, to violin and cello programmes in Grades 1 and 2, and ensemble work in Grades 3-5, our students develop both confidence and musical skills.
Extracurricular groups such as Training Orchestra, Advanced Strings, LS Choir, Wind Band, and Musical Theatre Club provide additional opportunities for collaboration and performance. These programmes reflect the comprehensive arts education that families seek when choosing an international school in Singapore, culminating in showcases, winter concerts, and house singing competitions that let our students shine.
