At NLCS (Singapore), students are presented with a wide range of opportunities to develop their leadership potential, inspire others, and make a meaningful impact. Through formal roles such as the Big Six, House Captains, and Vice Captains, as well as student-led societies, collaborative projects, community service initiatives, and other pathways, students are encouraged to lead with integrity, creativity, and purpose. By fostering essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, NLCS (Singapore) nurtures confident, compassionate leaders who are well-prepared to shape the future.
Big Six
The Big Six is a time-honoured tradition at NLCS, where six exceptional students are selected to represent the school’s core values — academic excellence, student welfare, diversity and inclusion, sportsmanship, creativity in the arts, and service to the community. As ambassadors of the school’s ethos, they lead with purpose and integrity, inspiring their peers, fostering a culture of inclusivity and excellence, and shaping the NLCS (Singapore) experience for students and staff throughout the academic year.
Each member of the Big Six is tasked with upholding and promoting a specific value within the school community:
- Academic Excellence: Supporting a culture of intellectual curiosity and student-driven learning.
- Student Welfare: Prioritising the well-being and development of every student by creating a supportive and nurturing environment.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Championing equality, respect, and global awareness while celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the school.
- Sportsmanship: Encouraging participation in sports and fostering teamwork, resilience, and community spirit.
- Creativity in the Arts: Showcasing the importance of the arts and inspiring students to explore and refine their creative talents.
- Service to the Community: Cultivating a spirit of selflessness and responsibility, empowering students to make a meaningful difference in the world.
As role models and leaders, the Big Six are expected to contribute significantly to the school community by:
- Organising and leading initiatives, events, and activities that align with their assigned value.
- Encouraging student participation and engagement in their areas of focus.
- Collaborating with peers, staff, and external partners to enhance the school’s offerings.
- Serving as ambassadors who embody the school’s vision, both within the community and beyond.
