Model United Nations (MUN) at NLCS (Singapore) offers students the chance to engage with global issues, develop leadership skills, and cultivate an understanding of diplomacy and collaboration. Through debates and negotiations, students refine critical thinking, public speaking, and problem-solving abilities, preparing them to navigate complex global challenges.

In 2024, the first-ever NLCS MiniMUN brought together students from NLCS branch schools in Dubai, Jeju, Singapore, and London. This unique event provided a platform for students to connect with their peers, fostering cross-cultural understanding, collaboration, and shared opportunities for learning and leadership. By strengthening ties across the NLCS global community, MiniMUN highlighted the value of teamwork and diplomacy in addressing global challenges.

By participating in MUN, NLCS (Singapore) students not only gain insight into international affairs but also build lasting relationships within the NLCS network, preparing them to lead with confidence and empathy in an interconnected world.

MUN is an educational simulation where students take on the roles of diplomats representing countries in committees that mirror the real United Nations. Participants debate pressing global issues, negotiate resolutions, and learn to build consensus in a professional and respectful environment. By stepping into the shoes of world leaders, students deepen their understanding of international relations, current events, and the challenges of global governance.

Participation in MUN offers students a wealth of benefits, including:

  • Enhanced Public Speaking and Debate Skills: MUN helps students articulate their ideas confidently and persuasively in a formal setting.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Students learn to analyse global issues, explore diverse perspectives, and develop creative solutions.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Delegates work with peers to draft resolutions and achieve consensus, fostering interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Global Awareness: Through research and debate, students gain a deeper understanding of international affairs, cultural diversity, and global challenges.

At NLCS (Singapore), MUN is a thriving part of the school’s co-curricular programme. Students of all levels are encouraged to participate, with opportunities ranging from internal training sessions to attending prestigious international conferences. The school regularly hosts its own MUN events, providing a platform for students to lead, organise, and debate with peers from other schools.

  • Develop confident, informed, and articulate individuals.
  • Foster an appreciation for diplomacy and the importance of international cooperation.
  • Encourage students to take initiative and lead discussions on global challenges.

Experienced mentors and faculty advisors guide students throughout their MUN journey, ensuring they are well-prepared for every conference and debate.
