At NLCS (Singapore), we believe that a nurturing learning environment extends beyond the classroom, and Kona, our resident Educational Assistance Dog, is a wonderful example of this in practice. Kona is a familiar and reassuring presence throughout the school day, joining classrooms, supporting small-group interactions, and helping students feel at ease.
Students engage with Kona in a variety of meaningful ways, from reading aloud to her and taking part in “Walk and Talk” check-ins, to simply working alongside her. These interactions help to build confidence, focus, and a sense of calm. Through their time with Kona, students also develop empathy, social awareness, and an understanding of boundaries within a shared, supportive community.
