What started as a random doodle quickly became the foundation of a published book. For our Grade 5 students, Ahaan and Avneya a spontaneous sketch grew into The Thing, a story that follows a group of friends who find themselves facing an unexpected and formidable monster. What begins as a thrilling adventure soon becomes a tale of courage, friendship, and resilience.
In this creative partnership, Ahaan brings the story to life through vivid illustrations, while Avneya crafts the narrative with flair and originality. Both students credited their learning experiences at NLCS (Singapore) as instrumental in shaping the book, particularly English lessons and the school’s emphasis on creativity, a reminder of how classroom learning can spark something truly remarkable beyond it.
The duo have since taken their passion a step further, launching a Comic Club society that runs during lunchtime for like-minded students keen to explore the world of comics and storytelling. Their book is now available to borrow from the school libraries, and we would encourage every curious reader to find out what all the buzz is about.
Ahaan and Avneya are a wonderful example of the creativity, initiative, and ambition that we nurture at NLCS (Singapore), and we look forward to seeing where their imaginations take them next.
