Depot Aid is an in-school collective that plays a pivotal role in shaping and coordinating student-led service across the Senior School at NLCS (Singapore). Composed of the chairs of our various service societies, the committee is chaired by Service Ambassador Jean-Edouard Dahy, with oversight from Service Coordinator Mr AlSaqqa and Vice Principal (Academic) Mr Burdett. Meeting fortnightly, Depot Aid plans and implements meaningful service initiatives that make a real difference both within the school community and beyond.
At each meeting, representatives from every service society bring forward proposals for new projects and ideas. Together, members discuss, refine, and organise these initiatives, pooling their collective energy and expertise to bring them to life. This collaborative process strengthens leadership skills and fosters a shared commitment to serving others. The committee also plays a key role in the school’s philanthropic decisions, democratically voting on which charities will benefit from the proceeds of whole-school fundraising events such as the Annual Gala, Christmas Fayre, and Summer Festival.
Beyond coordinating society activities, Depot Aid supports individual students who wish to launch their own service projects. Recognising that not every student is part of an established society, the committee provides guidance throughout the planning process, assisting with materials lists, sourcing and purchasing items, and securing official dates in the school calendar. This support ensures that any passionate young person has the resources and encouragement needed to turn their ideas into reality.
Leading the team, Jean-Edouard works alongside Mr AlSaqqa and Mr Burdett to guide students from initial planning through to full-scale events, whilst also helping to advertise and announce initiatives during assemblies and in the whole-school bulletin. Mr AlSaqqa, meanwhile, coordinates the logistical aspects of each initiative, ensuring students have access to the materials, resources, and facilities they need.
Through its inclusive structure and collaborative ethos, Depot Aid embodies NLCS (Singapore)’s belief in active citizenship, student leadership, and the idea that service should be accessible to all.
