The Grade 1 and 2 String Showcase was a wonderful opportunity to witness the remarkable progress our young musicians have made this year, as they took to the stage with growing confidence, skill, and joy.
In Grade 1, students performed on the violin with developing control and good technique, playing across open strings to create a range of sounds through simple pieces and warm-ups. It has been wonderful to see how quickly they have grown in confidence, coordination, and musical understanding in such a short time, a testament to their enthusiasm and dedication.
In Grade 2, students had the exciting opportunity to continue on the violin or transition to the cello, adding depth and richness to the ensemble. This year, their focus has been on harmony, exploring how different parts work together to make music more interesting and expressive. The cello provided the bass line while the violins performed both melody and harmony parts, creating beautiful textures across the group. Technically, Grade 2 students are now using their first and second fingers on the fingerboard to change pitch with increasing accuracy, with the introduction of the third finger the exciting next step in expanding their musical possibilities.
We are immensely proud of every young performer who took part in the showcase. Their progress this year reflects not only their hard work and commitment but also the nurturing, expert music education that sits at the heart of our Junior School programme at NLCS (Singapore).
