At NLCS (Singapore), we believe that some of the most meaningful reflections on a school come from the families who experience it every day. We recently invited Mr and Mrs Khanna to share their thoughts on their family’s journey with the school, from what first drew them to our community to the growth they have witnessed in their daughters both inside and beyond the classroom.
Their reflections highlight the importance of a nurturing environment that combines academic ambition with character development, curiosity, wellbeing and a strong sense of belonging.

Why did you choose NLCS (Singapore) for your children’s education?
NLCS (Singapore) immediately stood out because it combines a world-class educational philosophy with the heritage and reputation of the North London Collegiate School family. Knowing that the original NLCS in London has been shaping young minds and setting standards in education for over 170 years gave us tremendous confidence in the school’s values, academic rigor, and commitment to developing well-rounded individuals.
What particularly resonated with us was how those long-standing traditions are combined with a modern, forward-thinking approach to learning. The strong academic foundations, emphasis on character development, wellbeing, leadership, and global citizenship aligned closely with what we wanted for our daughters.
We felt that NLCS (Singapore) was not simply a school where our children would achieve academically, but a community where they would be challenged, supported, and inspired to become the very best versions of themselves.
What do you most appreciate about NLCS (Singapore) as a school?
What we appreciate most is the balance the school achieves. There is a genuine commitment to academic excellence, but equally important is the emphasis placed on kindness, creativity, resilience, and personal growth. The school has created an environment where students are encouraged to think independently, ask questions, and develop confidence in their own abilities while remaining grounded and respectful.
What positive changes have you noticed in your children’s approach to learning?
One of the most noticeable changes has been their growing sense of curiosity and ownership of their learning. Rather than simply completing tasks, they are now more inclined to ask deeper questions, explore subjects independently, and engage enthusiastically in discussions. We have seen them become more confident communicators and more willing to embrace challenges without fear of making mistakes. It is rewarding to see them developing a genuine love of learning rather than learning solely for outcomes.
How has NLCS (Singapore) impacted your family as a whole?
The impact extends well beyond the classroom. Our daughters often bring home new ideas, perspectives, and experiences that spark meaningful family conversations. The school’s values resonate strongly with our own, and we feel that NLCS has become an important part of our family’s journey in Singapore. The sense of community within the school has also helped us build connections and friendships with other families from diverse backgrounds.
What are your impressions of the teachers and staff?
The teachers and staff have been exceptional. They are not only highly capable educators but also genuinely invested in each child’s wellbeing and development. We appreciate the open communication, the individual attention given to students, and the care shown in helping every child reach their potential. There is a strong sense that each child is known, valued, and supported.
Would you recommend NLCS (Singapore) to other families? If so, why?
Absolutely. We would wholeheartedly recommend NLCS (Singapore) to families seeking a school that combines academic rigor with a nurturing and inclusive environment. The school prepares students not only for future academic success but also for life by developing confidence, character, critical thinking, and a genuine love of learning. For us, the greatest endorsement is seeing our daughters happy, engaged, and excited to go to school each day.
