This year, the Art department embarked on a more deliberate and exciting strategy of preparing Middle and Upper School students for the rigours and rewards of the IB Diploma programme, and the results have been exceptional.
Across all MYP year groups, students engaged with a rich and diverse range of materials, including print-making, acrylic paint, watercolours, clay, and digital media, whilst exploring a variety of themes that serve as strong foundations for sixth form study. Far from feeling prescriptive, this approach opened up new avenues of creative exploration, giving students the freedom to experiment whilst developing the core skills that the Diploma demands.
Key areas of focus included observational drawing in Grades 7 and 10, the development of conceptual work through sculpture and graphics in Grades 9 and 10, and a deeper engagement with subject-specific vocabulary across all grades. This last element is particularly valuable, equipping students to better understand, analyse, and articulate their own creative choices with clarity and confidence.
The quality of work produced this year has been exceptionally high, reflecting the ambition, creativity, and dedication of our student artists. From bold experimentation with new materials to thoughtful conceptual development, our students have risen to every challenge with enthusiasm and skill. We are immensely proud of all they have achieved and look forward to raising the bar even further in the year ahead, continuing to nurture the artistic talent that makes NLCS (Singapore) a truly inspiring place to learn.
