What is the laptop/ electronic device policy in NLCS (Singapore)?
Wearable technology, such as smart watches, must be in airplane mode when in school and should not be used for communication purposes.
Junior School students are not allowed to bring a mobile phone to school, with the exception of those Grade 4 and 5 students who have permission to leave the site unaccompanied. Phones must be kept in their school bag and should not be used during school hours, unless with the express permission of a member of staff.

Sixth Form students may bring a mobile phone into school but they should only be used inside the Sixth Form Common Room. Phones should not be visible in corridors or classrooms.
Sixth Form students may bring a laptop or tablet to school. However, this is not compulsory and teachers will never require a device to be used in lessons. Access to personal laptops/devices will be limited throughout the day.
Does the school offer co-curricular activities? If so, are they mandatory, and what is the estimated cost range for these CCAs?
Yes, we do. The enrichment and CCA programmes at NLCS (Singapore) are broad and multifaceted. Over 120 CCAs take place across the school every week, providing an inspiring array for students to choose from. Some of the clubs are run throughout the academic year, whilst others will change each season.
No, as PKG & KG1 students do not qualify for CCAs yet.
Yes, Students in KG2 to Grade 5 have compulsory activities per week, included in the school timetable. These will take place from 14:20 to 15:00, Monday to Friday. Activities will cover a range of areas including sport, creativity and service.
Lower School children are able to choose their CCAs each season.
For some specific activities within Sports and Performing Arts, there will be an opportunity for students to attend extended sessions that will continue until 15:30.
There are also some optional activities available for students from Pre-KG to G5 within Sports.

What are the languages offered?
In addition to English, which is the primary language of instruction, students study additional languages as part of the curriculum. The school also recognises the importance of mother tongue education and provides multiple opportunities for students to maintain and develop their native languages.
For PKG and Grade 1 students, we offer English and Mandarin subjects. We also offer paid Mother Tongue programmes.
For Grade 2 - 5 students, we offer English and Mandarin subjects.
In addition to their core English and Mandarin studies, students in Grade 6-8 take one of the following courses:
- Mandarin (Extended) — available to students in the Native Mandarin pathway or with a langauge acquisition phase 3 or above.
- French — open to both beginners and those with some experience of studying the language.
- Spanish — open to both beginners and those with some experience of studying the language.
- English as an Additional Language (EAL) —s tudents who have been judged by the School to be in need of targeted support for further development of their academic English.
For Grade 9-10 students, we offer English, Mandarin, French and Spanish subjects. We also offer Korean for native speakers only.
For Sixth Form students, we offer the following: Language B: English (only at HL), Mandarin, French, Spanish Language A: English, Korean - for native speakers For other languages: Self-taught language A* for the IBDP - private tuition is required. *Language A refers to a first language, home language or native tongue which the student has studied academically before.

Yes, we practice a rolling intake, subject to seat availability.
Are school meals provided? What are the additional cost attached to the school meals?
Yes, school meals are provided for Junior School students after parents have registered their details online with Victus and pre-ordering their child’s meals.
Our food service provider is Victus Catering, who provide school meals from our canteen.
Snacks are provided to our students in First School, free of charge, at the beginning of play-time.

How big is each cohort?
It depends on the student demand, however, we are able to offer up to 5-6 classes per cohort.

Our total student population is approximately 1400 as of May 2025.
What are the school hours?
Pre-KG - KG1: 8:20am - 2:20pm
KG2 - Grade 1: 7:50am - 3:00pm (including CCA)
G2 - G5: 7:50am - 3:00pm (including CCA)
G6 - G8: 7:50am - 3:30pm
Students can arrive in school after 07:00am, however, they should not go beyond the foyer area on level 1 until 07:30. (CCAs are optional after school hours)

Yes, extended EAL support is only offered to selected students in Grades 4 to 8.

Are there any specific entry requirements?
For PKG - Grade 1 students, they will have go to undergo a 30 to 45 minutes assessment/ interview in a 1:1 setting
For G2-G5 students, they will have to undergo a 30 to 45 minutes assessment/ interview in a 1:1 setting. This is applicable for students applying to Grade 2 for the next academic year.
There will also be a 4.5 hours assessment/ interview covering English, Mathematics, Cognitive Ability Test and an interview.

What is the curriculum offered?
The curriculum offered depends on the respective Grade levels.

Could you share information about your teachers' backgrounds, including their countries of origin, qualifications, and teaching experience?
Our teachers are native English speakers, with the majority coming from the UK. Every teacher holds at least a bachelor's degree, and a significant percentage also hold postgraduate qualifications.
Our language teachers are mostly from the countries of where the language is spoken (Mandarin from China, Spanish from Colombia/Ecuador).
How much time do students typically spend outdoors as part of the daily schedule?
This depends on the respective Grades and weather permitting.
For PKG - G1 students, outdoor activities will be held during PE and break time. Morning break is 20 minutes and lunchtime play is 25 minutes
PKG - KG1 students have access to outdoors as part of their daily continuous provision.

No, we do not offer nap times in the First School.

Children should be toilet trained prior to joining PKG unless there is a medical need which would be discussed with decisions made on an individual needs basis.

Our parent community is vibrant and actively involved in school life. There are many opportunities to contribute, from becoming a class rep, hosting a club, to participating in career talks for Senior School students. Parents are also encouraged to get involved in community and cultural events throughout the year.
